“Bopha Chiang Mai [Flower of Thai’s Chiang Mai]” -Sinn Sisamouth
You know, this is one of the songs I associate with the hey days of the Cambodian golden era, with all the movies and music that glimmered in a South East Asian exoticism. The sweat dripping across your skin as you walk in an elegant k’ben sambot to meet your man on stage crooning this in a black and white odyssey. My image of romance is all dressed in my pride as a Cambodian interested in a long lost beginning. I just want this to be continued so that Cambodian can be recognised for gains and not loss.

Someone recently liked this even though I posted it ages ago, so I listened to it. Needless to stay I started bawling my eyes out, not because it’s a sad song but because of the memories this song has for me. It’s definitely my favorite Khmer song. A true classic! Even if you can’t understand a word of it, listen to it, there’s something in it which takes you to steamy and chaotic Cambodia!
